For two seasons of the CW’s “Supergirl,” we’ve seen Kara Zor-El (aka Kara Danvers) struggle with being a super-powerful Kryptonian trying to live a normal life on earth.

In this season's premiere, we see that she’s going through an identity crisis.

“The theme of this season is, what does it mean to be human?” said executive producer Ali Adler, speaking with reporters at San Diego Comic-Con.

“Kara will be grappling with that, and all of the characters are – the loss of her family and Krypton affects that, and the mother/daughter relationship is still something we want to explore.”

“She is struggling with how she compartmentalizes being a superhero and those human emotions she’s dealing with,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg added.

The end of last season saw Kara having to say goodbye to her boyfriend Mon-El, which will have a lasting impact.

“Where Mon-El is and how he comes back is a central mystery of this season,” Adler teased.

“When we pick up in season three, Kara has very much dedicated herself to Supergirl, and I don’t think she really wants to address what happens for Kara Danvers, because that was a massive heartbreak for her,” said series star Melissa Benoist.

“The season picks up a couple of months later, and she’s going after every crime in National City that she possibly could.”

Meanwhile, fans of Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant won’t be disappointed.

“She will be in the season premiere, and she will be recurring for sure,” said Adler.

“The way that Calista appears in the season premiere is really clever and pretty brilliant, and I’m excited for you guys to see it,” Benoist added.

The big bad this season was teased at the very end of last season: Reign, portrayed by Odette Annable (“House”).

“She’s a world killer, genetically engineered. She will be very different from any other Arrowverse villains.” said Kreisberg.
